Acts 2:41-47 Fellowship

Welcome back the group and acknowledge any new members. Share with them that the purpose of the group is to help people discover more about God and how He relates to their lives. Explain that anyone is welcome, and if they have other friends that they would like to invite to join, they are always welcome.

Begin the session by asking:

· What are you thankful for this week?

· What are you struggling with and how can we help?

Spend time praying for their concerns

· How did you apply the lesson from last week? How did it go for you?

· Who did you share the story with, and what was their response?

Story: Acts 2:41-47

Relate the Purpose: Importance of Being Part of a Local Church

Relate the Background: On the Jewish feast of Pentecost many Jews from all over the world of that day were in Jerusalem. The promised Holy Spirit was sent by Jesus to indwell the disciples. The Spirit’s coming was accompanied by miracles: the sound of a mighty wind and the apostles speaking in the native languages of the people there for the feast. As a result of this and the preaching of Peter telling of the death and resurrection of Jesus, proving him to be the Messiah, the audience wanted to know what they needed to do. Peter told them to repent and to be baptized in the name of Jesus and they too would receive the Holy Spirit. Many responded. But what should come next after they believed?

Read the Story: Either the facilitator or members of the group can read. Read it once with Bibles open with the members following along, and once with Bibles closed.

Acts 2:41-47

41 On that day about three thousand believed his message and were baptized. 42 They spent their time learning from the apostles, and they were like family to each other. They also broke bread and prayed together.

43 Everyone was amazed by the many miracles and wonders that the apostles worked.44 All the Lord’s followers often met together, and they shared everything they had.45 They would sell their property and possessions and give the money to whoever needed it. 46 Day after day they met together in the temple. They broke bread together in different homes and shared their food happily and freely, 47 while praising God. Everyone liked them, and each day the Lord added to their group others who were being saved.

Summarize the Session: (Relate to Purpose)

We saw in this passage what a very vital church or fellowship looked like. The Holy Spirit led the early believers to meet together regularly for worship, prayer, fellowship, study of God's Word, loving one another and reaching out to those who did not yet know Christ. For us to follow what the Bible says, we must do the same.

Close in Prayer:

Pray that the Lord will help each person in the group become part of the church, where they can grow in Christ, and they can serve other believers and help them grow, and together they can reach out and bring others to faith in Christ.

Set the time and place for the next meeting, and remind them to feel free to invite others to join the group.
